How to install Windows 7 on Asus Eee PC 1000H*
This how-to will guide you through install Windows 7 RC on the Asus Eee PC 1000HA (but this guide should work fine with all 1000H* models).
Step 1: Create a bootle USB Flash Drive (or use a DVD):
If you do not have an external DVD drive, then you can follow this guide to create a bootable USBFlash Drive: http://giverhell.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530
Step 2: Install Windows 7:
Install Windows 7 (duh) from either your bootable USB flash drive, or an external DVD-ROM. If you want to dual boot, be sure you choose CUSTOM installation, and specifiy the correct partition (some Eee PC models come with 2 partitions as default). To boot from ther USB drive you will need to tap ESC after pressing the power button. If the BOOT BOOSTER is enabled, you may need to disable it - tab F2 after pressing the power button to enter the BOIS and disable it.
Step 3: Driver Installation:
Now here's where things difer from model-to-model. My Windows 7 installation reconigzed all the drivers, except the LAN, touchpad (touch worked, multitouch did not), and the ACPI driver. So you will need to do the following:- Grab the Vista version of the ACPI driver (yes, the Vista version will work with Windows 7 perfectly). Installation is easy - download, install, reboot - now all the FNkeys (brightness, sound etc etc should work) http://gekko.me/acpi.php?download
- Next, you will need to grab the wireless lan card drivers and install them.
1000HA: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/access_ibm_br/7kcna5ww.exe
1000H: http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/IS_AP_STA_RT2860_D-1.1.6.0_VA-2.1.0.0_RU-2.1.6.0_VA-2.2.1.0_AU_2.0.6.0_VA-2.0.6.0_081308_1.0.3.0_NH.exe
Other model driver links to come... Sorry, those are the only 2 I could find for now - but the others ARE available on the net...
- Then grab the Touchpad, Chipset, and SUperHybrid drivers/utilities from http://support.asus.com
- Keep in mind, that almost all the XP drivers/applications work fine with Windows 7. So if you have any issues with drivers, try the XP ones first - if they fail, UNINSTALL THEM BEFORE INSTALLING NEW ONES!
That should be it. This is a guide that I will expand on over time, so expect updates! If you have any questions, please create a new thread and reference this one. Thanks!!!
